Located a six-minute walk from Shibuya Station, “Aburi Miso Ramen Mensho Shinbusakiya” offers both regular wheat-based noodles and a wheat-free “gluten-free brown rice noodle” option. The soy sauce used at the restaurant is also said to be gluten-free, and when you choose the gluten-free option, the soup and toppings are also prepared without wheat.

Gluten-Free Miso Ramen with Brown Rice Noodles

The ramen at Shinbusakiya is quite different from the light, health-focused image that is sometimes associated with gluten-free ramen. It has a rich, full-bodied flavor.

The soup has a fragrant, roasted miso flavor that pairs well with the brown rice noodles. Even if you do not usually eat ramen, I think it is a flavor worth trying.

In addition to gluten-free noodles, the restaurant offers a range of vegan and vegetarian options and is also popular with visitors to Japan.

This time, I ordered ramen, a chashu pork rice bowl, and fried chicken. I also wanted to try the gyoza, but they had already sold out because they are popular. If you would like to try the vegan gyoza, visiting earlier in the day may be a good idea.

The fried chicken is also said to be made without wheat flour and is gluten-free. Each piece is about the size of a piece of fried chicken and quite substantial, so a three-piece order may feel like a lot if you are also ordering other dishes.

Still, it was delicious, so I ended up eating the whole thing anyway...

Regarding the gluten-free preparation, the restaurant appears to take cross-contact into consideration by using separate cooking utensils. However, there is a notice in the restaurant stating that it is difficult to completely prevent cross-contact. If you have a severe allergy or need to follow a strict dietary restriction, please check with the restaurant in advance and make your own decision based on your individual needs.

In addition to the Shibuya location, Aburi Miso Ramen Mensho Shinbusakiya also offers gluten-free menu options at its Matsumoto location.
