Comme’N’s gluten-free bread was created after a staff member with a wheat allergy shared their experience. It is made without wheat, using rice flour and brown rice flour instead. These breads are also chosen by people who avoid wheat in their diet.

The bakery's regular wheat bread and gluten-free bread are sold at completely separate locations.

“Comme'N GLUTEN FREE” is a bakery in Setagaya Ward where you can buy gluten-free bread.Originally known for its wheat-based bread, the bakery began offering gluten-free bread after one of its staff members developed a wheat allergy. Today, it operates a dedicated gluten-free shop next to the original bakery, which continues to sell wheat-based bread.

The photo on the left shows the exterior of Comme'N Tokyo, a bakery that sells traditional wheat-based bread. Directly across the street is Comme'N GLUTEN FREE.

In general, gluten-free bread is often either overly chewy or dry and crumbly, and pastries such as croissants or laminated dough are considered difficult to make. However, the bread at Comme'N challenges the idea that gluten-free products are merely substitutes.

Here, you can enjoy sandwiches, savory breads, pizza, and other baked goods that many people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease have had to give up. Every visit makes it tempting to buy more than planned.

Comme'N GLUTEN FREE is a takeout-only bakery. However, in March 2025, Comme'N STAND, a café located about a two-minute walk away, opened nearby. Customers can now bring their purchases there to have them warmed up and enjoy them on-site.
