Bakeshop Sol Sol is a gluten-free bakery located in a residential area of Hekinan, Aichi Prefecture.
All of its products are gluten-free and made without wheat. They are made in a facility dedicated to rice flour bread, with measures taken to avoid contact with wheat. The bakery also does not use artificial fats containing trans fats or refined and bleached white sugar.
I first discovered Sol Sol’s bread sometime after I started following a gluten-free diet. At the time, bakeries specializing in rice flour bread were still quite rare, so I ordered from Sol Sol many times.
Except during the hottest months of summer, I used to have assortments of their breads delivered to me. Along with sliced bread and baguettes, there were also melon pan, cream buns, curry bread, donuts, and many other kinds of bread.
My freezer was always full of Sol Sol’s bread, which is now a fond memory.
I still order from them from time to time. My family and I especially like their chocolate breads, such as the rich chocolate bread and chocolate nut bread. They are so rich that they almost feel more like sweets than bread. I especially enjoy having one of these chocolate breads with a cup of coffee in the afternoon.
You can also buy their products directly at the bakery. Their online shop is available for customers in Japan, so those living farther away can also order their products.
I’ve enjoyed all of the breads I’ve tried, and Sol Sol remains one of my favorite bakeries. If you happen to visit Hekinan, it’s worth stopping by.
