Located inside the Dai-Tokyo Sogo Wholesale Center—a market about a 15-minute walk from Fuchu-Honmachi Station—"Niigata Tare-Katsu Speciality Shop Katashoku" offers authentic Niigata-style tare-katsu (fried pork cutlets dipped in a sweet soy sauce). The cutlets are coated in a crispy rice-flour batter made from carefully selected rice shipped directly from Niigata.
**Please note: At the moment, the soy sauce used in the sauce is not gluten-free, so it may not be suitable for everyone. The shop also serves wheat-based ramen.
The shop is located on the left side of the entrance to Aisle 5 (第5通路). Please purchase a ticket from the vending machine to place your order. The Tare-Katsu Don comes in three sizes:
⚫︎Small (小): 2 cutlets + 150g rice
A perfect portion for smaller appetites or to pair with a bowl of ramen.
⚫︎Medium (中 / Regular): 3 cutlets + 200g rice
A standard serving size.
⚫︎Large (大): 4 cutlets + 300g rice
A hearty portion for those who want a filling meal.
Since the rice-flour coated cutlets are fried fresh to order, they are served piping hot and wonderfully crispy. They pair perfectly with the mildly sweet soy-based sauce.
Unlike thick, conventional tonkatsu, these cutlets are thinly sliced. This allows them to absorb the savory sauce thoroughly, making them easy to eat. It offers a unique and refreshing taste that sets it apart from standard tonkatsu or sauce-katsu bowls. It is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys sweet and savory soy sauce flavors.
If you visit early while the market is fully open, you can enjoy your meal and pick up fresh meat, fish, and vegetables on your way out. If you are planning a trip to the Fuchu area, it is well worth a visit.
