Gluten-free Option | It seems that, after experiencing health issues, the owner gradually shifted the bakery to gluten-free sweets made with 100% Japanese rice flour, without refined sugar or artificial additives. Today, all of the baked goods are gluten-free, and the restaurant also serves meals made with brown rice and carefully selected ingredients. *Please note: If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, please contact the restaurant in advance to confirm ingredients and the possibility of cross-contact. |

Located near the coast in Shizuoka City, umi pupan is a gluten-free bakery that makes baked sweets with Japanese rice flour and pesticide-free brown rice. The shop does not use refined sugar or artificial additives.
I first discovered umi pupan through its online shop and ended up ordering the pound cake several times because I really enjoyed it. I'd always wanted to visit the shop in person, and this time I finally had the chance.
The shop has a calm and relaxed atmosphere, with baked goods carefully displayed throughout the space. Everything is made without wheat, refined sugar, or artificial additives. Along with sweet baked treats, they also offer savory cookies in flavors like cheese and pepper or basil and tomato, making them a nice choice for gifts as well.
Everything I bought was delicious, and I really enjoyed the flavor of each ingredient. I used to choose rice flour sweets mainly as an alternative to wheat-based desserts, but my perspective has gradually changed. These days, I often choose them simply because I want to eat them again—not just because they're gluten-free.
There is also a restaurant called umi table on the same property, where you can enjoy seasonal vegetables and meals made with carefully selected ingredients.
