Gluten-Free Restaurant Michinoritei Nagoya Ekimae

Michinori-tei Nagoya Ekimae is a gluten-free restaurant located about a 3-minute walk from Nagoya Station in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture.
The restaurant was founded after its owner developed a wheat allergy. It has become popular not only among people with wheat allergies but also among those without allergies, as a place where everyone can enjoy a meal together.

Because the owner has a wheat allergy, Michinori-tei Nagoya Ekimae does not use wheat, barley, rye, or oats. Even the seasonings are carefully selected to be gluten-free, and strict measures are taken to maintain a gluten-free environment.

On this visit, I ordered the Shrimp Kakiage Bowl Set. At first glance, it looks like a typical tempura rice bowl, but the batter for the kakiage is made without wheat flour, and the seasonings, including the soy sauce, are gluten-free.

In Japan, soy sauce is used in many dishes, which can make gluten-free dining options limited. Restaurants that offer gluten-free tempura, especially kakiage, are particularly rare. That's why I chose this dish with one thing in mind: “Today, I absolutely want to eat kakiage!”

The rice bowl is topped with shrimp and vegetable kakiage tempura, as well as sweet potato, shiso leaf, seaweed, and maitake mushroom tempura. The meal also comes with several small side dishes.

Side dishes included on the day of my visit:
・Green beans with sesame dressing
・Stir-fried lotus root and hijiki seaweed
・Marinated bell peppers
・Japanese pickles
・Japanese rolled omelette
**Side dishes may vary depending on availability.

The kakiage is made with rice flour, giving it a light and crispy texture. The side dishes are also carefully prepared, allowing you to enjoy a variety of traditional Japanese flavors in one meal.

My family ordered the “Jumbo Fried Shrimp Set Meal,” which also came with a variety of small side dishes. The rice could be chosen from white rice or several other options.

In addition to these dishes, Michinori-tei also offers a wide variety of gluten-free menu items, including fried oysters, udon, sukiyaki, tonkatsu, croquettes, hamburg steak, hitsumabushi (Nagoya-style grilled eel), grilled fish, rice balls, chicken cutlets, oyakodon, and fried chicken. Being able to enjoy all of these dishes gluten-free is truly a delight.
The restaurant also offers a great selection of traditional Japanese desserts, so be sure to try one during your visit.

Note*
Michinori-tei also has another location, Michinori-tei Izumi. Please be sure to check the restaurant name before your visit.
